Use Port Container Services to Ship Your Goods Cheaply

So you recently got transferred to the international branch of your company and you’re wondering how you’re going to pack up and transfer your household goods 1000s of miles.  Not to worry, it’s not as hard as you think.  Begin by purchasing some high quality steel shipping containers from Port Container Services, and then arrange to ship them internationally on an ocean vessel.

Why You Should Ship by Cargo Ships

Nowadays, the shipping business is booming, and over 75 percent of the items you buy are ordinarily transported by cargo ship.  This is because not only does ocean freight use less greenhouse gas than trucking or airplanes, but the largest container ship can hold around 15,000 boxes and crates.  In fact, over 20 million shipping containers are being transported right now.

Shipping has become cheaper, especially for ocean freight.  This is partly because container ships, cargo ships and other vessels make up more than 50 percent of the world’s tonnage.  Both Europe and North America have the highest rates of world trade between 25 and 35 percent, though most other countries are around 23 percent.  If they are neighboring countries, they may use road or train shipping, otherwise ocean freight is way cheaper than air freight.

The Pros and Cons of Each

Cargo ships typically charge you per a container and the size of your shipment, even sometimes figuring it down to the cubic meter.  For reference, a 20 foot standard container can hold 1250 cubic feet or a maximum of 34,000 pounds, while a 40 standard container can hold up to 2434 cubic feet or 44,000 pounds total.  If you’re moving a household, ship freight may work well because it gives you a few weeks to get your new house in order before having a bunch of boxes and household goods arrive.

However, airlines look at chargeable weight, which measures both the size and weight of your ship. Smaller shipments may be better to ship by air.  In addition, if you have to ship something immediately for your company, air may be the better option as its shipments can arrive in as quick as a day or two and are very reliable.  You can transport boxes up to 64 inches on passenger planes and up to 8 feet on actual cargo planes.
